Duphalac is a laxative that contains lactulose. It is used for constipation and sluggish stomach.
When lactulose breaks down in the intestine, acids are formed that bind water in the large intestine. This causes the volume of the intestinal contents to increase, and the consistency to become softer. Duphalac is an agent that regulates bowel function without habituation or stomach cramps.
Note that it may take two to three days before the desired treatment effect is achieved. When using laxatives in children and infants, this should be done exceptionally and under medical supervision, as the normal emptying reflex can be affected.
