Like the other B vitamins, vitamin B5 is important for energy metabolism in the body. There are two forms vitamin B5 can exist as: dexpanthenol and calcium pantothenate

What does vitamin B5 do for the body?Vitamin B5 is part of coenzyme A and has an important role in, among other things, the conversion of energy from fats, carbohydrates and proteins to all the cells in the body.

Sources of vitamin B5 in the dietThere is vitamin B5 in most foods. Good sources of vitamin B5 are cereal products, offal and vegetables.

Recommended daily intake of vitamin B5Norwegian health authorities have not stated any recommendation for daily intake of vitamin B5, but 5 mg per day is believed to be enough.

What happens with a lack of vitamin B5?Because vitamin B5 is found in virtually all foods, vitamin B5 deficiency is uncommon. There are no known deficiency diseases.

What happens with high intake of vitamin B5?There is little risk of poisoning with vitamin B5.
