Sore throat

A sore throat is very common in connection with a cold. A sore throat is usually completely harmless and usually goes away on its own, but it can be uncomfortable. We have collected our best advice for relieving a sore throat.

Why do we get a sore throat?

A sore throat can be experienced as unpleasant, but is usually completely harmless. The most common cause of a sore throat is a viral infection, such as strep throat, mumps, upper respiratory infections and kissing bug. A sore throat can also be caused by a bacterial infection, such as strep throat. If you suspect a streptococcal infection, it may be appropriate to use antibiotics, and you should therefore contact a doctor.

Good advice for a sore throat

  • Lozenges can have a relieving effect. Ordinary lozenges are usually taken when needed, but high intakes can cause flatulence and have a laxative effect. Avoid long-term use of sugary lozenges as this increases the risk of caries.

  • STREPSILS lozenges are non-prescription, pain-relieving throat lozenges that have a local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effect. The effect comes on very quickly and lasts for several hours.

  • Avoid smoke
