Josif Pancic Marshmallow root tea, 50 g

 

Latin name and family:    Althaea officinalis L. (Malvaceae)
Description:     The root is thick, branched, densely covered with soft, white hairs. The stem is upright, and the leaves are triangular, shallowly incised, densely covered with shiny hairs. The flowers are single or in short clusters. The leaflets of the outer calyx are hairy and pointed, the sepals are ovate, and the corolla leaflets are triangular, pale pink or white. It grows in the temperate zone of Eurasia, in wet meadows, next to rivers, on the edges of flooded forests.
The medicinal part of the plant is used : Dried root (Althaeae radix) or leaf (Althaeae folium)
Chemical composition:    Mallow root contains mucilage, asparagine, calcium oxalate, pectins, starch, tannin, phenolic acids
Use:    The active ingredients of marshmallow have a beneficial effect on relieving cough. It is also used to coat irritated skin and mucous membranes of the respiratory and digestive organs, and as an ingredient in tea mixtures for inflammation of the urinary tract. Side effects and drug interactions:     Side effects are not known. In the case of simultaneous use of synthetic drugs, mucus from white mucus can reduce their resorption. How to prepare and use the tea:     pour one tablespoon of chopped root with 200 ml of pre-boiled and cooled water and leave for 30-60 minutes with occasional shaking and then strain through a thin layer of cotton. Drink the prepared beverage sweetened with honey several times a day. Give children one spoonful of lukewarm tea every two hours.
