Sleeping tablets – a short-term solution

Sleep problems are among the most common health problems . Sleeping tablets are medicines that make it easier to fall asleep. Regular use of sleeping tablets over just a few weeks can cause addiction, and causes the effect of the sleeping tablets to decrease.

What are sleeping pills?

There are several different types of sleeping tablets. The most commonly used type in Norway are so-called hypnotics. These are sleeping tablets that affect the brain so that it relaxes more easily and falling asleep is therefore easier. It is important to be aware that sleeping pills do nothing to the actual cause of your sleep problems.

Sleeping pills are addictive

Prescription sleeping pills (hypnotics) may be needed for a short period to reverse a painful trend, but in some cases can make pain worse if used regularly over a long period of time. Sleeping tablets are therefore recommended for as short a period as possible, and normally no longer than 2-4 weeks. Always follow the dosage recommended by your doctor. If you are unsure, ask us at the pharmacy for advice or talk to your doctor.

Regular use of sleeping tablets can cause the effect of the sleeping tablets to be lost. In addition, sleeping pills can be addictive.

Non-prescription alternatives

Today, there are several good alternatives to the traditional prescription sleeping tablets. At LenaPharm you will find, among other things, Alora and Odoval , two non-prescription alternatives which are traditional plant-based medicines with a long tradition in folk medicine as sleep-promoting, stress-relieving and calming agents. We also have Pro Nerv Sleep , which can help if you are bothered by awakenings during the night. Melatonin can be tried to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. Valerina is also an over-the-counter alternative that can be tried.
